Job Description
The Australian Financial Review is seeking a dynamic and experienced lifestyle journalist/editor to work with the Life & Leisure editor in commissioning, editing and delivering compelling stories that captivate our audience both online and in print.
As the associate editor, you will play a crucial role in shaping our lifestyle content.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with the editor to commission and edit lifestyle content, ensuring high-quality output weekly.
- Develop innovative ways to engage readers.
- Rewrite and edit articles, and undertake writing assignments.
- Maximise digital content presentation, including SEO and effective headlines.
- Maintain high editorial standards and manage multiple deadlines.
- Work with digital and visual teams to enhance storytelling.
- Coordinate with designers and photographers to enrich content.
- Partner with the commercial team to explore advertising opportunities while preserving editorial integrity.
- Cultivate relationships in lifestyle sectors for story development.
- Represent The Australian Financial Review at lifestyle events.
Qualifications
- Proven lifestyle writing and editing experience with a strong portfolio.
- Excellent writing, commissioning, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong organisational abilities for managing multiple projects and production processes.
- Knowledge across Life & Leisure’s subject areas.
- Collaborative mindset, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience working with digital formats is advantageous.
- Familiarity with content management systems and design tools like InDesign is a plus.
