NewSouth is seeking an organised and highly motivated Publicity and Marketing assistant to join its collaborative and creative communications team.
This entry-level position is perfect for someone looking to enter the publishing industry and learn more about book promotion and publicity. It is a role suited to someone who is organised, self-motivated, creative, is excellent at multi-tasking and is passionate about books. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the publicity and marketing assistant will support the communications team in the execution of their campaigns. This is a full-time position on a one-year fixed contract, based in Randwick, Sydney.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the creation and distribution of media releases, pitch documents and monthly EDMs
- Assisting in the development of social media and online content across NewSouth Publishing and NewSouth Books accounts and websites.
- Assisting in the execution of publicity campaigns, including managing book mailouts and fielding media requests.
- Accompanying the publicity team to pitch meetings with major festivals and book event partners, including bookshops and libraries.
- Accompanying authors to some events and festivals. Occasional after hours and weekend work will be required.
- Providing administrative assistance where needed.
Desired skills and experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- The ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail and eye for design, following a set style guide.
- Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Word, and the ability to pick up new systems and software.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and experience in content creation is desirable but not essential.
- Some relevant experience, preferably in books, media or creative industries would be an advantage.
