Job Description
The Australian Financial Review is looking for an ambitious journalist with outstanding news judgement and leadership skills to drive our day-to-day reporting on business as Deputy Companies Editor. You’ll be working with the Companies Editor, reporters and production journalists on everything from editing breaking news to overseeing a lengthy feature or interview. At other times, you may be helping reporters work out how to best tell a story. This position is suitable for an editor or a reporter with several years of experience who has an interest in expanding their skills. The role of Deputy Companies Editor would offer the right candidate the opportunity to grow into a leadership position at the Financial Review, the country’s most respected and widely-read business publication.
Your primary duties will be:
- Coordinating and driving coverage of corporate news
- Planning and editing stories
- Monitoring breaking news and updating coverage as necessary
- Ensuring the accuracy and quality of all content
- Overseeing the distribution of Companies stories to a wide audience
- Paying special attention to the newsroom's premium content
Qualifications
- A deep understanding of the biggest sectors on the ASX, Australia's most influential business leaders and key policy issues
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Outstanding time management skills
This is a full-time position, and some Sunday rostering will be required.
