Job Description
We are looking for an experienced, creative audio story-teller to produce compelling content for Australia’s leading news mastheads, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. The position available is a 5-month contract role, reporting to our Executive Producer of Podcasting. In this role you will be working with journalists, producers and editors across the country to originate high-quality audio content that reflects our editorial values and reaches our audiences via our mastheads, social platforms and beyond.
The ideal candidate will have a strong, audience-focused news sense and the ability to generate original stories from scratch, while also being comfortable working as part of a team. A keen eye for social media and a focus on audience-driven content is essential, as is the ability to think quickly and act decisively in a fast-paced news environment. Additionally, the candidate should possess excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines while consistently delivering high-quality stories.
Day-to-day you will:
- Produce high-quality, fast-turnaround news podcasts.
- Research and script episodes.
- Organise studio schedules and talent bookings.
- Upload and publish podcast episodes.
- Liaise with social media and digital editors.
Qualifications
What we would like to see:
- Proven experience in studio and field recording.
- Strong production, post-production, and audio editing skills.
- Ability to script, voice, and edit innovative audio stories.
- Skilled in coaching talent and working under tight deadlines.
- Experience managing publishing across multiple platforms and analysing audience metrics.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (desirable).
- Experience in management, mentoring, and training (desirable).
