SMG4 Story/Character Writer

About us:

Glitch Productions’s partner channel SMG4 is a 10+ year long running story driven channel involving parody adventures with Mario and original characters going on incredibly insane and zany stories. The tone of the show can go from silly and light hearted to very dark and serious in a beat. Though the episodes may seem nonsensical at first, you’ll find at the heart of every SMG4 episode is the strong drive to create great characters, tell a compelling story and ultimately make the audience laugh and have a great time.​

Job Information:

The story/character writer position will see you working with the staff writers and artists of SMG4 to expand the series’ characters, universe, and lore. You will have a strong hand in developing new ideas and stories for our beloved characters to experience and help shape the future of the series. You will be involved in planning and writing new episode story beats and helping the writing team execute them in tight scripts that delight our audience.

Your duties will include:​

• Designing, improving, and expanding existing character backstory, motivations and relationships.
• Designing new character personalities and backstories if required.
• Designing and expanding the world and lore of SMG4.
• Planning out episode-by-episode events that build towards larger story arcs and plot lines.
• Create solid story beats for episodes to guide the staff writers, keeping in mind to build and allow beats for comedy but not necessarily designing the specific comedic moments yourself.
• Collaborating with the rest of the writing team to execute an exciting and comedic story.
• Provide constructive feedback and ideas to the writing team.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Demonstrated experience in comedic writing, including physical and dialogue-based humour.
• An ability to work and write in an existing world with an established history, and capture the voice of the project you are writing for.
• Strong understanding of character development and dynamics.
• A love of world building and character creation.
• Strong communication and organisation.
• An ability to work on a regular deadline (SMG4 is a weekly show!).
• Ability to analyse work and provide feedback to writing team.
• Passion to create and tell interesting stories with our characters.

• Editing skills.
• Strong pre-established understanding of SMG4 and their story.
• Strong sense of gen-z culture and humour.
