Pedestrian Group, Australia’s largest youth-focused publisher, is searching for a Writer/Producer to contribute to the next chapter for VICE NZ, working on a 12-month contract as part of our partnership with the NZ Ministry of Social Development.

The right candidate will have their finger on the pulse of emerging issues, and be driven to create stories that spark conversation. They will be comfortable picking up the phone and platforming VICE NZ stories in new and engaging ways across our social media platforms.

Reporting to the Head of Editorial and the Head of Native Content, the role is suited to a young, emerging writer and producer with an excellent sense for what makes good storytelling and good content online.

You’ll be part of a two-person team, based in New Zealand, and will be required to:

  • Write and edit multiple stories a week, sitting within the core beats of love, relationships, and sex, for the Love Better vertical on Vice.com
  • Work closely with the Head of Editorial and Head of Native Content to drive audience.
  • Work closely with editors to maximise the impact of all of the content we produce.
  • Publish stories direct to VICE NZ’s social media channels, brainstorming new ways to tell stories through those platforms.
  • Accompany staff to shoots and interviews where necessary
  • Appear on camera as required
  • Champion and chase NZ stories that will sit well within the wider VICE brand

The position calls for someone with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in media, communications, or journalism (preferred, but not mandatory)
  • 1-2 years experience working in a fast-paced newsroom
  • A proven track record of sound writing, and a passion for ethical media and journalistic best practice
  • A unique tone or point of view
  • Experience producing different forms of media, not just written articles
  • Experience in optimising stories for SEO
  • Experience producing content for, and posting to, Facebook and Instagram

This role is a full-time position, and will be based out of New Zealand.
