Our mission is to empower Australian artists to earn a living whilst doing what they love, and providing our collectors a way to reach their favourite artists from the comfort of their homes. Founded in 2012, we are now Australia’s largest online art marketplace alongside two physical galleries and an NFT marketplace, and are expanding rapidly.

We have teams based in Adelaide and Melbourne with galleries in both cities. We have just moved to our brand new gallery in Richmond (VIC) and are now looking for a gallery assistant / curator to join us full-time.

Job Description:

We’re looking for someone to join us as a full-time gallery assistant and curator, based in our Richmond gallery. Friendly, proactive and with a passion for engaging audiences with art, you are a natural at customer service, technology and the art & design world.

The role includes curating the art in the gallery, interacting with collectors (walk-ins and appointments), organising art events at the gallery, and all gallery admin. There will be opportunities to curate online collections, have input into the direction of what we’re building on bluethumb.com.au, as well as our secondary art platform The Podium.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the day to day responsibilities of the gallery.
  • Interacting with collectors and artists (walk-ins and appointments).
  • Helping collectors find the perfect artwork and assisting them with their purchase.
  • Actively finding ways to increase engagement with the foot traffic (window displays, Instagrammable ideas, engagement with local community/businesses)
  • Assisting the business to meet its sales targets and KPIs through a proactive approach and up-selling.
  • Helping to facilitate events and exhibitions at the gallery.
  • Online curations and occasional blog writing.
  • Help the team with packaging the sold art for shipment.

About you:

With prior experience working in a public facing role (creative industries preferred), you will have confidence interacting visitors, including artists and collectors, and be able to discuss the artists and art at length and with interest.

Experience in managing artists/galleries, holding events and art openings is valuable.

We’re a technology company in art, so a love of the internet and tech is a big plus.

Good to have:

  • A natural passion for customer service and sales.
  • Well organised and capable of proactively handling the gallery admin, as well as gallery pop-ups, events and openings.
  • An interest in tech (learning and using tech platforms to manage the website and communication).
  • Flexibility around working hours. We prefer someone who can work Tuesday-Saturday (or similar) as the gallery will be open on Saturdays. We are potentially going to be open 1-2 evenings per week (11am-7pm)
  • Based in Melbourne.
